Title: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 15. Sep 2019 at 19:06

The story so far
Dr. Steven Webster and Lemon met in the University Library when Steven Webster was finishing his Doctor and Lemon worked there as a librarian.

They found out that they both believed in ghosts and started a ghost hunting company in Elburough.

A nice British city of about 60,000 people, that has a ghost problem...and that the outside world keeps forgetting.
(Strangely they still get their deliveries)

They got all the equipment but even after two weeks they hadn't had a single customer..and there money is starting to run low.

But then the miracle happens. The business telephone rings.

[speak char=person]Hello.
This is the Spencer Fashion store.
We have a problem.
How quickly can you be here?[/speak]

[bubble]Just give us your address and we will be promptly with you. For our new customers we charge you for an inspection $350.[/bubble]

Post by Elana on 15. Sep 2019 at 19:53

They give you the address.
But as it is a big shop downtown you shouldn't have much problem finding it anyway ;)

The drive takes you less than 10 minutes.

As you approach the shop the PKE meter reacts.
In front of the shop the reading is up to 262 milli Spengler.

But from the outside you can't get a fix on the actual creature.

*pulling up to the place both Dr. Webster and Lemon point at the front door simultaneously. Lemon was giving the gear a strange look at exactly what ectogoggles felt like in her hands lemon gave a second thought as to leaving the van. There were some people on the sidewalk and she didnít feel particularly good about being seen right now....Lemon collected herself exhaled and braved fourth avoiding eye contact with anybody and made a direct line to the door of the establishment where she banged her fists loudly on the door.*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 15. Sep 2019 at 21:47

Interesting way to enter a shop :P

A proper push would probably have worked even better.

But even so you get the attention of a slaes person who comes out from a hiding place behind a desk.

[speak char=sales girl]Thank you for coming so quickly.
The creature is at the back at the T-shirt section[/speak]

As she points you can see a floating hand tossing shirts around.

I assume someone took the pke meter inside.
It gives the ghost a reading of 1.1 Spengler.
Just enough that it can actually manifest.

[bubble] what, who! [/bubble]

*snaps out of a delusion recognizing that the sails girl just pointed out everything we needed*

[bubble] oh wow, oh wow... hey little guy....donít run... everythingís good... we just want to take a look at you..[/bubble]

*all the while slowly approaching it stopping any time it seemed agitated*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 16. Sep 2019 at 18:35

How do you notice if a floating hand is agitated?

But anyway, it doesn't pay any attention to you, it just keeps throwing T shirts around

Post by Minutia on 16. Sep 2019 at 19:20

[bubble] easy fella, nobody wants to hurt you just want to know why your hear and what you might need to find your way to the other side...easy fella [/bubble]

*Lemon continued to silently slowly creep closer to the hand manifestation...In time she was close enough to reach out and touch it and she did just that.*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 16. Sep 2019 at 19:29

Lemons hand just passes through the ghost hand.

Moving through the hand felt cold..and Lemon notice that she now has some slime residue on her fingers.

But it did get the ghosts attention.

The hand stops throwing things around, then turns, "facing" her.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 16. Sep 2019 at 22:28

Talk to the hand because the face ain't listening.

I prepare my Ray to attack if it is trying to do something funny.

[bubble] Da Da Da Da *snap-snap* [/bubble]
*lemon eagerly waits for a response and nothing*

*she tries again this time in a higher octave*

[bubble]Fasscinating[/bubble]

I ask the sales woman:
[bubble]Does this house has story? I wonder if there are other parts than this hand.[/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 17. Sep 2019 at 20:21

[speak char=sales girl]No. We never had anything like this before.
And when the hand showed up we didn't know what to do.
So we thought lets call experts[/speak]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 18. Sep 2019 at 01:53

[bubble] Morse code, maybe it knows Morse code [/bubble]

*Lemon does a quick google on her phone to fine a spreadsheet on Morse cove and begins tapping away on the floor in front or the apparition.*

[bubble] Hello, we are here to help you, what is it your looking for here?[/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 18. Sep 2019 at 07:22

The hand shows no interest in the morse code you tap out, but it goes for your phone instead.

And start to tap and wipe on it, without making any sense.
It looks more like it would be fascinated by the bright colors and not the actual content shown

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 18. Sep 2019 at 22:29

I use my PKE to see, if I can find more readings.
[bubble]This ghost seems not to have any concious. It is only attracted to bright colors and light.
Fascinating how it can see without eyes.
Anyway, we can analyse it further in the lab.[/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 18. Sep 2019 at 23:02

*slides an ecto trap within range of the hand and opens it up*

Attack roll? [d20]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 19. Sep 2019 at 07:50

No attack roll for the trap. But there is a reason why it is normally used against immobilized targets ;)

dodge roll
[d20]

Well a 6 is too bad.
The handy spirit gets sucked into the trap and you have your first ghost captured.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 19. Sep 2019 at 13:10

*Lemon calmly picked up the trap and looked about*

[bubble] Well, if you have any more occurrences please call.[/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 19. Sep 2019 at 16:40

[speak char=sales girl]Great!
You should get your money within 14 days after we received your bill[/speak]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 19. Sep 2019 at 19:28

[bubble] Ooh? [/bubble]

*lemon gets a little distant crazy look towards the sales girl*

[bubble] Well we operate on a much faster overturn than two weeks, in order to enable the speedy response and service that you required means that we won't be able to leave the premises with apparition in hand without payment in hand. Otherwise we will have to release the apparition and still charge you for services minus and storage and disposal fees. [/bubble]

[bubble] cash would be best... [/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 19. Sep 2019 at 19:36

[speak char=sales girl]I know this sucks.
But I only work here.
Besides, if you release the ghost again, there is no way you get paid, as you refused to render any services.
It just means we call Spirit B Gone and they get the money for the job instead.[/speak]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 20. Sep 2019 at 03:52

*Lemon silently scowled, she knew she was just bested by a sales girl who was probably still in high school, and had two tone hair, and a belly ring... Lemons eyes just went black as she slumped to the passenger side of the van and stares blankly out the windscreen.*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 21. Sep 2019 at 07:24

[bubble]This is not a problem.
Please sign here that we have caught a ghost to your full satisfaction.
Also that no property damage was caused from our side.
[/bubble]

Reaching the sales girl a confirmation sheet.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 21. Sep 2019 at 08:24

[speak char=sales girl]Sure thing[/speak]

She signs the confirmation sheet.

Also I think we never had a final price posted.

Have you decided to stick with $3000 to underbid the competition by a fair margin?

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 21. Sep 2019 at 09:30

Yes, the bill will be  $3000 for now. :D

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 21. Sep 2019 at 10:40

Okay, that gives you some potential money.

While you are still on your way back there is another call.
(I just assume you patched the office phone through to your own cell phones, so you wont miss all the calls.
And that you have a distinct ring tone, so you know that it is the business line)

I'm also so bold to assume that one of you answers the call :P

[speak char=janitor]Hello? Ghost Hunters?
I'm calling from the gym attached to the St. Martin High School.
It looks like the boy showers are haunted.
How quickly can you take care of that?[/speak]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 21. Sep 2019 at 13:03

*Lemonís abyssal eyeís stared zombie like at the phone, after an inappropriate amount of time she tapped to answer. In a voice that was eerily ghost like.*

[bubble] Ghost hunters [/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 21. Sep 2019 at 13:41

For the answer to that, see above :P

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 21. Sep 2019 at 17:10

[bubble] guh Webster! Letís go...[/bubble]

*sliding into the drivers seat Lemon takes out her aggression by blasting the horn at anybody that happened to be even remotely in the way as she drove like a maniac to the high school*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 21. Sep 2019 at 17:17

[speak char=janitor]Thank you for coming so quickly.
I hope you can remove our problem.
I don't think anyone has actually seen a ghost.
But a lot of the boys have heard something in the showers
and lately there have been reports of them getting touched by something invisible.
And when they just avoided the shower the haunting seems to follow them into the changing rooms instead[/speak]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 21. Sep 2019 at 21:12

[bubble]All right sounds like we got a groper. Weíre these touchings sexual in nature Or more your typical cold hand on the shoulder type touching?...[/bubble]

*grabs the gear leaving the trap with the hand tucked away safely and goes to the boys shower*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 21. Sep 2019 at 21:20

[speak char=janitor]From what I heard it was more sexual harassment like.
Never encountered the ghost myself[/speak]

The janitor does not follow you into the gym

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 21. Sep 2019 at 21:39

*Pulling at Dr. Webster we find our way to the boys locker room then the shower, we just stand there PKE meters blipping looking for anything unusual, unnatural or nocturnal*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 21. Sep 2019 at 21:46

Looking at the PKE you can see that the ghost is floating around the gym.
The strength reading at a solid 3 Spengler.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 21. Sep 2019 at 22:05

[bubble] Ohhh. This one might be a little more sentient than snappy in the van [/bubble]

*makes their way to the gym*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 08:04

Having my googles on to see the ghost.
[bubble]Be ready. I'll show shoot. Prepare the trap.[/bubble]

[d20]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 08:05

Right you go on and shoot as soon as you spot the ghost.

The ghost in turn flees through the nearest wall.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 08:52

[bubble]After him![/bubble]

I use the PKE and try to follow the ghost.
He must be somewhere the nearby rooms.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 09:07

You follow the ghost for a while.
Everytime you get close it seems to move again.
But finally you reach almost the position it is..it seems to be a mere 5 meters away....upwards.

It moved above the roof.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 09:09

I take the stairs to follow him upstairs.

(Plan B is to lure him by letting Lemon take a shower and lure him close to us)

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 09:12

There are no stairs leading to the top of the roof.

But I'm sure you can find a ladder for that purpose :D :P

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 09:13

I organize a ladder from somewhere and climb on the roof.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 09:17

You are almost at the top when a pair of yellow hands grab the ladder.

[speak char=ghostthing name=Ghost]Leave me alone[/speak]

and the ghost pushes the ladder floating along with it.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 09:23

I try to shoot the ghost, before he can push the ladder.

acrobatic roll
[d20]

Dammit, I use my hero point to re-roll
[d20]

And now it is time to shot
[d20]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 09:28

You try to shoot, but aiming is difficult whn you are on a ladder that is about to be toppled over.
So you miss by quite a margin and then you fall.

Tougness check
[d20]

The height wasn't all that high, but the landing was unfortunate.
You probably broke a few rips while at it.
Consider yourself staggered for now.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:12

*I shot the ghost*
[d20]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:19

Lemons shot also misses the ghost and puts a few burn marks on the building.
The ghost seemingly knows better than to fight and just moves through the walls back inside the building

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:30

[bubble]Okay Lemon, here is the plan. I take a shower, since Im in no shape to fight.
If the ghost appears, catch him!  [/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:34

*lemon began singing out and stopped mid note*

[bubble] what what! [/bubble]
*A we head to the showers...*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:36

[bubble]Yes, I'll be the bait. It's the only way to lure the ghost.[/bubble]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:37

As Webster showers it takes still 2 minutes before the ghost "shows" up.

Which means it floats invisible into the room, but clearly shows up on the PKE meter and is visible with the ecto goggles

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first ca
Post by Minutia on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:41

*Turning on the Goggles and mount my phone camera in the corner of the room*

[bubble]Alrighty then ready to go.[/bubble]

*aim and shoot at the ghost*

[d20]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:44

I soap my wet body, in hope it will attract the ghost further.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:46

And it works. the spirit moves close enough to Webster, that he can hear its...
raspy breath?

And then lemons ray hit.

Dodge save
[d20]

The beam entangles the creature, and slows it down.

But now instead of running it seems to go for attack.

But luckily it can't move at its normal speed but gets very close to Lemon.

(And next round it will be able to attack)

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:53

*lemon continues to aim and shoot at the ghost*

[d20]

[bubble] Damn[/bubble]

Hero point

[d20]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Captain Ash on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:56

I ran as fast as possible to my ray, I hid on the nearest wall under a sheet and shoot at the ghost.

[d20]

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Elana on 22. Sep 2019 at 10:57

Lemon manages to keep the ray in contact.

lets see how the ghost handles this

[d20]

The beam tighten its grip, completely immobilizing the ghost.

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case
Post by Minutia on 22. Sep 2019 at 11:00

*Slides a trap beneath the ghost and opens it up*

Title: Re: Ghosthunters 1: The first case

And as expected the helpless ghost is now trapped.
